Cheesy and proud of information technology

Let'south face it, frequently we go to the movie house for a scrap of inconsequential fun. In example yous were in whatsoever doubt, Music and Lyrics kicks off with an 80s-style Wham-like video of a band called as 'PoP'. Firmly natural language in retro-chic, Hugh Grant is Alex Fletcher, the done-up has-been now playing the nostalgia excursion for middle-aged housewives. He meets bubbly Sophie Fisher (Drew Barrymore) who waters the plants in his apartment but has a knack for writing lyrics. This saves his twenty-four hour period when current pop-diva princess Cora asks him to write and tape a duet with her.

Chances are you are now reaching for the vomit bag or saying that maybe sounds like quite a giggle. If you tin can tummy the idea of Hugh Grant singing his ain songs and staging a come back so rest assured, this is a very polished and unsubstantial rom-com. He and Drew Barrymore propel the picture with energy, wit and a warm, lovable enthusiasm. While peradventure doing little more than than playing new aspects of themselves, it is a delightful functioning, and 1 backed up with catchy songs, a fabulous debut by Haley Bennett (Cora) and a heartfelt, realistic script.

Cora is a sort of teenage megastar, somewhere betwixt Shakira, Britney Spears and a youthful Madonna. Her elaborate stage-shows have a 'Buddhism & thong'(mysticism and sex) philosophy. Here, as with Alex and Sophie, the echelons of the music world seem realistically portrayed. While the matches seem unbelievable at first, past the end of the film we want Hugh and Drew to go on their romance offstage, just as with classic romance films of the 30s, so by any mainstream yardstick, Music and Lyrics is a success. The film is as unpretentious equally its two lead actors, makes no bang-up claims, and satisfies Valentine's Day release requirements with a sincerity that takes it a notch in a higher place the average cheese. Casting is spot-on, even down to Sophie'southward older (and much larger) sis, who has similar characteristics and mannerisms. It's easy viewing, and fifty-fifty contains aught unsuitable for older children. If you want more sophisticated and substantial fare, you probably don't demand film reviews to find your mode to the nearest art-house cinema or Oscar blockbuster. But for straight enjoyment, Music and Lyrics slides down like a very reasonable glass of rich chardonnay. Silly, formulaic, only rather well done.

Charming, witty, and lighthearted comedy

pachl 3 September 2007

In that location are already 222 reviews of this movie, so the chances of anyone ever reading this are slim. However, I'm a sucker for a longshot. (so if you read this review, please give it a thumbs up or a thumbs downwardly...I'g curious to know if anyone will always read this, buried under more than 200 other reviews)

When a friend suggested nosotros rent this pic, my initial reaction was, "NO!! It'due south a chick picture show. And besides, it'south got Hugh Grant in it. Those are ii really big strikes confronting information technology." However, and call up my fondness for longshots, the moving-picture show as well casts Drew Barrymore in the other lead role. I couldn't resist.

To my complete surprise, both actors were excellent, and Hugh Grant doesn't have a bad singing voice. To be honest, if he and Drew Barrymore wanted to tape an album of pop songs, I retrieve it could do quite well. Her strength is that she is perky and funny, and that compensates for lack of trained song talent. Sometimes y'all DON'T want to hear Barbra Streisand.

Here's the quickie plot summary: Hugh Grant was in a popular ring of the 1980s, and at present he's reduced to playing for embarrassing venues like shopping malls, amusement parks, and High Schoolhouse reunions. When a Britney Spears-type singer wants him to write her new single, his life changes completely, but only due to Drew Barrymore's help.

I now judge movies in part past how my European friends would react to them. I have to admit that some American movies are a little corny, only this movie passed the exam with flying colors. A friend from Slovakia not but loved the moving picture, he insisted on watching the trailers and special scenes.... twice! It was a welcome relief to really be proud of a Hollywood movie.

I now have new-institute respect for Hugh Grant, and my adoration for Drew Barrymore is higher than ever. She sure has a lot of talent for playing someone with pluck and a petty scrap of endearing wackiness.

Lightweight but uplifting comedy

I'll admit information technology, I love this film! OK, the plot line is thinner than pigment stripper, the lines more mildly amusing than witty, and the acting isn't going to win any Oscars, BUT...

information technology's ane of those movies that but makes you lot feel proficient.

Correct from the hilarious opening, showing Hugh'south brand-believe ring "Pop" in their "MTV/VH1" striking video "Pop Goes My Eye", you can't aid but smile. Plainly it is especially agreeable for those of the states who lived through the pop excesses of the 80s, just I have to say the teens in the audition seemed to enjoy it likewise.

All the songs are pure cheese (and incredibly infectious), which coupled with some amusing lines, a very lovable Hugh Grant, a very cute Drew Barrymore, and fabled supporting roles from Kristen Johnston and Aasif Mandvi make this movie a not bad romantic comedy for those of us who actually enjoy a "flake of fluff".

What a pleasant rom com!

This is a nice rom com equally lighthearted as mesmerizing. Beginning, we experience an alchemy between the 2 primary protagonists, Alex Fletcher and Sophie Fisher, fifty-fifty if these 2 people seem diametrically opposed, at first glance. This is non a dear at first sight, just we run across them taming to each other, as the fox and the lilliputian prince written by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry in 1943. And then, I like this constant self-mockery about the cheesy ring chosen Pop, the introduction and final scenes, and the manifold hilarious references of the Battle of the 80'south Has-Beens. Finally, the dialogues are excellent with a permanent British humour. Oops... I've almost forgotten: the bandage is globally splendid, peculiarly Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore.

Surprisingly good fun - amend than you'd think.

I've just read the starting time review on here and I'm a little surprised at the things information technology said but as always, these things are only an stance. Anyway, I went to the World Premiere last nighttime and here'south what I thought.

The plot is adequately simple - Hugh Grant plays a done out 80s pop star with a flair for melodies only no clue well-nigh lyrics. Cue the dizzy plant-daughter (do people really take a institute-girl??) Drew Barrymore who can throw lyrics together without a problem. The human relationship between Drew and Hugh is congenital well - especially when you remember that Drew is 31 and Hugh is 47. There's aught wrong with such a gap, I'm only saying the chemistry is there (or they would have looked a little creepy).

Haley Bennett plays Cora, a Britney/Christina/Shakira mish-brew who is looking to do a duet with Hugh's character. She is brilliant at the shallow, superficial teen-nymphette and it'south a surprise to run across that it's her starting time characteristic. And check out her costumes! The soundtrack is proficient fun - pretend 80s songs mix with Cora's modernistic popular and the Hugh/Drew demo track is nice too. One of the songs sounds a flake like The Whitlams. The spoken section at the very kickoff of the film sounded atrocious but the rest was fine - mayhap the cinema's problem but I was in the Odeon Leicester Square....

The editing seemed a tiny flake, er, clunky at times - scenes cut into each other messily and dialogue at ane bespeak seemed to be cut short. It hadn't been but it just sounded that way at the time.

I didn't expect to similar the movie that much - I only went as I fancy Drew to bits (and having seen her close up I'm right to!) only both my girlfriend and I came out laughing and humming the main vocal. It's genuinely as expert as whatsoever other Hugh Grant film and is another dandy functioning from Drew (though information technology doesn't get virtually Hymeneals Singer or Doppelganger (joking about Doppelganger)). It's well worth going to see at the picture palace and is a proper feel expert rom-com. There's no shame in it for us fellas equally Drew is nice to look at, as is Haley. My girlfriend loved it.

An unexpected pleasure

It seems odd for me to requite such a high rating for romantic comedy as I always discover them frothy and lightweight. However I establish this wonderfully pleasurable. Hugh grant may have been in his usual role of self depreciating charming English language Gent who is living on his past popular star celebrity but the dialogue and one liners gave his part substance. He more than than gave justice to them past his superb timing. Drew Barrimore also fell into the part as a woman who comes to feed the plants and ends upward feeding ideas to him for a song in which he cant complete. The acting was spot on, the one liners witty just I recollect it was the music added joy to the picture. As he said in the film don't quote me on this but something like " there is nothing like a skilful song for lifting your spirits in a 2nd." I left this motion picture feeling happy not merely for the characters but in myself.!

Interesting and funny picture show

I must warn yous -- Being a guy, I had pretty low expectations to begin with. However, there were a couple of things I enjoyed:

i) The moving-picture show was funny.

-- Hugh Grant'due south one-judgement witty remarks came out natural and funny.

-- Their ability to poke fun of two distinct musical decades could be meliorate, but still turned out pretty funny.

ii) The plot was novel (at to the lowest degree to me).

-- "Meshing" the two music periods (the fourscore'south and today) in the same flick provided a adept manner to dissimilarity the two styles.

-- Since I'thou not so familiar with the music industry, I enjoyed the "behind the scenes" with the trial and fault of coming up with lyrics (at least in the way the movie portrays it.)

Other than that, it was the typical "chic-motion-picture show." Guy has trouble with girl, he says some bad things, stir up some emotional scene and the usual -- will they get dorsum together?

Other than that, if you're just looking for a good laugh, I'd give it a go!

A mannerly romantic comedy that entertains from start to end

Music & Lyrics is a dandy romantic comedy. Hugh Grant plays the charming English language guy role effortlessly as e'er and Drew Barrymore demonstrates great comedic timing and brings a sugariness to the function and together, the 2 have a conceivable chemical science. The historic period gap isn't an effect when you watch the moving-picture show because it just seems right that these ii characters should get together.

What sets Music & Lyrics apart from other rom-coms is the music. The music is woven seamlessly into the material of the movie. There are three master characters in Music & Lyrics, Grant'southward Alex, Barrymore'due south Sophie and the soundtrack which is enjoyable and deceptively tricky. I came out of the cinema and i had the lyrics to the principal song "A way back into love" in my head for hours later on the film had ended.

Mix all this together and throw in nifty supporting performances from Kristen Johnston & Brad Garrett and y'all become a sweet moving-picture show that volition definitely make you grin.

I liked it.

From the moment the flick started information technology was apparent that it was going to be cute. The opening sequence is a hoot and must have been incredibly fun for Hugh Grant. I, as well as the most of the audience started laughing as shortly as the motion picture came on. Get-go time watching a movie that I didn't fifty-fifty notice the opening credits. I really liked the chemistry betwixt Grant and Barrymore. They played well against each other. I could practice without the adult female from Third Rock From the Sun. I find that she acts a tad too cartoonish in her show/films and this 1 is no exception. Nice to run into Brad Garrett in a direct function. I love the fact that actors and actresses are doing their own singing. I like movies that don't finish at the end of the pic, but have fun things to lookout man during the endmost credits. I suggest you stay for them.

Delightful!

I was pleased when I finished this motion-picture show... normally by the end of most romantic movies my legs ache from non-use and I have just enjoyed a nice fiddling nap.

I found Music and Lyrics to exist charming and clever.... Hugh Grant gives a neat crisp delivery on his very witty lines... good interaction between he and Barrymore, some well-timed jokes and a heartfelt ending make this a nice date movie that did not follow the norm in it'south character.

Hither is where a few things were dissimilar

1. The main male person character was a not a womanizer overjoyed out of that life 2. The two characters had no secret shame to exist revealed halfway through the moving picture three. He did not cheat on her... then they got together in the end

He just did... as Sophie Fisher's sis in the moving-picture show, says "Something Extraordinary" to win her honey.

Come across it.. you will grin!

Grant and Barrymore

I'm a fan of Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. Their personalities alone are plenty to carry a movie. And such is definitely the example with Music and Lyrics. Hugh Grant's self-deprecating, dry out sense of humor charms. And Drew Barrymore's slightly daffy daughter-next-door shtick lights up the screen. These ii could read me an economics book and I'd exist entertained.

Music and Lyrics has its moments (campy '80s videos, shots at reality shows and pop divas), but overall, the story isn't as proficient as its stars. And while I dearest Grant and Barrymore separately, I'm not sure I love them together. Each of their personalities seems somewhat compromised in Music and Lyrics -- equally if Grant's sarcasm and Barrymore's sugariness are both toned downwardly. They come across somewhere in the eye, and it's very pleasant...but information technology's not as expert every bit it could have been. Music and Lyrics is very much along the lines of Two Weeks Discover (both are written and directed by Marc Lawrence).

Lesser line: it's light fluff with some engaging stars, fun pop culture mockery and a song that will stick with you (like it or not!)

Totally Awesome

It makes you call up nigh quondam groups from the 80's, some are still going strong, and some have moved on to better things. Hugh Grant seems to be at his best when he does one-act, he can say the stupidest things and brand them audio mannerly. He plays Alex Fletcher, a singer who used to be part of a WHAM like group called Popular. Merely when they broke in the early 90'due south, his career has not been much of anything, these days he performs at conventions, until he is giving the opportunity to write a song for a singing sensation named Cora(Haley Bennett). But shortly suffers from writers cake, until he comes beyond Sophie Fisher(Drew Barrymore), a women who has a style with words. They both soon start writing the song together, but will they get it done in time? A great appointment flick. Hugh Grants improvement After terminal years American Dreamz. He and Drew have such perfect chemistry, I hope they will squad up together once more. This moving-picture show is funny and has great music, please go see information technology with a date.

Required viewing for 80s music fans

Every 10 years or so, a musical comedy comes along that perfectly pegs a musical era. The late 70s would be "Spinal Tap". The 90s would be "Singles". And hither, ladies & gentlemen of the 80s generation, we have "Music and Lyrics".

I don't know if mail service-80s people would understand the humour, but gawd I was in stitches right from the showtime. The film begins with an embarrassingly accurate rendition of an 80s pop video: moussed pilus, tight pants, big-arm dancing, slutty nurses with bursting cleavage, the works! From there, the film focuses on one of the guys in the video, the self-proclaimed "happy has been" Alex (Hugh Grant), an ex-80s glamour boy who is now reduced to playing high school reunions and Half dozen Flags themeparks to make a living. In many ways information technology'due south so authentic, information technology tin't even be called a satire.

Fifty-fifty funnier is the spoof of today's booty music and Alex'south attempt to integrate himself. He has three days to write a hitting single for a pop diva, but despite his instrumental talents he has the lyric writing skills of a moisture shoe (trying to rhyme "you and me" with "dissection" haha). Then forth comes Sophie (Drew Barrymore) who has a magical way of putting words together, though she herself comes with a handful of emotional baggage.

The plot is really non the point. The point of this film is--in the spirit of Spinal Tap--to mock the silliness of cultural crazes, especially the 80s music that we all know and so well (only are too embarrassed to acknowledge). My swain rejects from the 80s, this is your catharsis, a manner of exorcising all the demons from your closets. Y'all can laugh at the screen, but you lot're really laughing at yourself & loving every infinitesimal.

Both Hugh & Drew deliver peachy, believable performances, and the script is fast paced & witty similar an former Katharine Hepburn / Cary Grant picture. Just what really made this a smashing picture show are the riotous performances by the supporting characters. Brad Garrett ("Everybody Loves Raymond"), Kristen Johnston ("tertiary Rock from the Sunday"), and the rookie Haley Bennett (in her first of, I promise, many films) are monstrously funny, adding their own detail quirky comedy to this production.

Don't miss your hazard to see this movie. Twice fifty-fifty. And the bonus features on the DVD are a existent care for: the Gag Reel (bloopers), Deleted Scenes, and The Making Of featurette. If you were built-in between 1965 and 1975 you must see this film. To everyone else, aye, I retrieve you'll bask it too. Keep in listen that all this stuff was REAL.

Sweet and Charming!

Music and Lyrics is actually one of the meliorate rom-coms made in the by decade. It's a little cheesy, but who tin can't resist the sappiness and charm of the film which works thanks to the two irresistible stars and an splendid soundtrack. Equally a fan of eighty'south music, I know a matter or two about washed-up musicians, so I enjoyed the motion-picture show fifty-fifty more. I'm one of those people who believe in this sort of love, so I was even more interested. Finally, I likewise dear the within joke this film makes about modern pop music. Those who similar 70's/80's music know what I'g talking almost.

Marc Lawrence's movie is about a man named Alex Fletcher who is a has-been star of the lxxx's hitting ring, POP!. When a young famous musician in the style of Lady Gaga asks him to write a vocal, he needs to discover a lyricist fast. When he learns how talented his plant lady is with words, they go an unexpected pair with an unexpected romance.

This pic really works because of Hugh Grant'southward amuse and Drew Barrymore's sweetness. I never knew that Grant could sing, but does he ever have a good voice! And every bit usual, he is good at being funny. Drew Barrymore has always been a respectable actress and that continues her as the flawed plant girl who is afraid to stand up for herself. Haley Bennett does a good task portraying the typical mod pop star in the vein of Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift.

Overall, Music and Lyrics is a sugariness though unusual rom-com. This film is almost like a musical, and information technology works big time. The soundtrack is very tricky and honestly the songs sung in the film will be a good addition to my expansive collection of songs on my Ipod. It'south well-written, which information technology should be since a good portion of the plot is based around writing. Now this is the kind of smart rom-com I want to encounter on Valentine's Day. I charge per unit this film 9/10.

Grant-Barrymore rom-com A-Team

Managing director/writer Marc Lawrence is kind of a rom-com hack. And that's basically what nosotros accept here. The story is weak, but information technology's the ii stars that make this shine.

Alex Fletcher (Hugh Grant) is a has-been singer songwriter. He's living off his former fame, but that'south drying up. So he'south forced to ghost write for pop princess Cora Corman. Sophie Fisher (Drew Barrymore) is the substitute plant waterer. (really?? that'south a task?) She ends upwards being his lyricist.

Information technology's all very silly and manufactured. But the storyline does permit a few jabs at pop music. Grant and Barrymore are super cute and amiable together. They are astonishing rom-com fabric. Their chemical science is off the charts. They both have great comic timing. They make this premise work.

The Show

tedg xv February 2007

Warning: Spoilers

Films define romance to such a dominant extent that the and then-called date movie can't devious far from "the story," the story of what romantic dearest is all about. Naturally the larger arc of that story must be that the couple falls in love (oft in unlikely or ironic circumstances). They interruption up usually considering of some misunderstanding (and in this example information technology is often a miscommunication) or because the man is reluctant. Then at the finish they gather again, and exactly how the man makes the plea is the whole point of the pic.

That last deed, the re-romance, the certification of what we saw before as genuine... that is almost always a public act. In that location has to exist an audience in the scene. The reason is a narrative necessity that I telephone call folding. We experience things more than sharply when nosotros think we are office of them. So if we see ourselves literally in the moving picture, if we see an audition watching equally we scout... If we run across their faces react, then we react too.

So for many, many engagement movies, the writing claiming is how to engineer that concluding fold. Hither it is washed by starting at the terminate. We need Grant to sing a dear song to an abandoned Drew, in front of a packed audience at Madison Foursquare Garden. The writer (in this case Lawrence) may have started with the trouble, so he created a writer with the same problem, how to detect the story, the words. Its brilliant, the solution. Drew IS the words and also provides the words.

Its made obviously fifty-fifty for the stupidest of us: melody (which Grant provides) is only the appearance. The words are the soul, where the romance is rooted. That'southward Drew. Of course you lot knew that going in, but she actually says this on screen.

Along the fashion, we are given a B. Spears like vocaliser who shows us the superficial, literally buttwagging public seduction of the most superficial kind. On Drew's side is her sister a huge, heavy woman who runs a diet supply store but eats like a equus caballus. She brackets Drew with the sexy singer to let the states know that although Drew isn't pretty and thin and sexy in those ways, what she has is the words. In fact the ditsy singer initiates the search for the words that Drew provides. We fifty-fifty have the food and words metaphors combined when our lovers talk virtually real romance as existent vocal and both as "dinner."

Its a remarkable solution. Every bit the need for expensive, solid engagement movies increases, look for all sorts of clever writing forth these lines.

Unfortunately the actual motion-picture show-making here stinks. Its but a poorly done movie that handles the sparkles from these 2 ineptly. Its odd, because the shows within the prove are marvelously perfect, including an ersatz music video at the very beginning. That video, past the way distills the entire story.

Oh. Drew'south character is unhappy at the commencement because she has been "badly written" by her one-time lover, a novelist.

Ted's Evaluation -- 2 of 3: Has some interesting elements.

A very enjoyable romantic comedy about songwriting.

Warning: Spoilers

I like both principal actors, I enjoy their style and generally like whatever movie they are in. I like this picture show very much. It is predictable in one mode, but very unpredictable the way information technology gets to where you know it must be going. Very clever script writing.

Hugh Grant is Alex Fletcher, 1980s singing "has been" living in New York. He earns a living by playing nostalgia gigs nearly anywhere his amanuensis friend can become them. In this movie he is entertaining a bunch of his fans at a 20 year class reunion for the class of 1987 when he had been at the peak of his popularity. Alex is a gifted musician, merely never could write lyrics. He gets a suspension when hot pop star "Cora" (real newcomer Haley Bennett) needs a new song and he is asked to write i in two days.

Drew Barrymore is Sophie Fisher, formerly aspiring novelist who now helps her sis and this mean solar day is filling in as a plant waterer in Alex'south apartment. As Alex struggles with lyrics, she absentmindedly voices an interesting line. Alex is excited, thinks she is a natural, tries to become her to work with him simply she wants no part of information technology, and we learn why later on. Information technology has to do with an old, bad writing experience.

Nosotros learn from the DVD extra that neither Grant nor Barrymore are singers, only for this movie they did all their own singing, and Grant even sings harmony with "Cora" at i betoken. He has a very pleasant singing voice, and even learned a bit of piano playing for the role.

Very enjoyable

Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore are the "Music and Lyrics" in this 2007 film, also starring Brad Garrett, Kirsten Johnson, and Haley Bennett. Hugh Grant plays Alex Fletcher, a erstwhile teen idol who was part of a group chosen Popular in the '80s. His partner went off on his ain and became a big star, but Alex is stuck doing concerts at Slap-up Adventure and Knox Berry Farm. When he gets the take a chance to write a song for a hot belongings, a Britney type named Cora, his agent (Garrett) aimlessly sends him a lyricist, who doesn't work out. But Sophie Fisher (Barrymore) who is replacing his plant waterer, turns out to be a natural lyricist. He finally convinces her to work with him, though it isn't easy.

In that location's no real substance to this movie, nor was any substance intended. Information technology's a light, fun, highly entertaining movie with charming stars. The flashbacks to the Pop music videos and Grant doing his famous "Pop" move are great. Grant has a great turn with a line, and Barrymore is very sweet.

A good time. Don't expect for War and Peace, and you lot'll relish it.

They're Playing Our Song

Warning: Spoilers

It's a expert twenty years since the Musical They'r Playing Our Song was produced on Broadway so most of the target audience for Music and Lyrics are unlikely to know it but Writer-Director Marc Lawrence would take been in his mid-twenties at the time and may well have seen the Show, a lightly-disguised story of the working and personal relationship between composer Marvin Hamlish and lyricist Careole Bayer Sager, kept it in the back of his mind until now and re-launched it every bit Music and Lyrics. They're Playing Our Song had a Book by Neil Simon, a tough act to follow and Lawreence'southward script doesn't fifty-fifty get close. On the other manus his two leads, Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore, know how to react when someone calls 'Action' and then we wind up with a pleasant feel-good moving-picture show that's more than adequate if y'all just want to spend an 60 minutes or so beingness mildly amused. There are, of course, lots of movies similar this effectually, films you don't mind seeing once and forget every bit you get out the theatre and this is no better or worse than most of them.

Are these pants a fleck likewise tight?

The basic formula for a Hugh Grant romantic moving picture never changes. Finds girl, loses girl, and rejoins girl to live happily ever after. That is why I love watching his movies. They are predictable and he is predictable and funny.

He seems to match with some of the all-time women in the business organization. Julia Roberts in Notting Hill, Andie MacDowell in Four Weddings and a Funeral, Sandra Bullock in Two Weeks Notice, and now Drew Barrymore.

Barrymore and Grant are perfect together. She has that infectious smile that makes her irresistible. They both have those charmingly quirky looks, and they just seem to fit well.

It all makes for one of the all-time films he has done and one that I volition watch over and over.

Likable & Funny!

How oft do nosotros encounter romantic-comedies that are well-done & genuinely cute? They stammer many a times, I personally feel, simply 'Music and Lyrics' is a Likable & Funny film, that is undoubtedly a small little gem course 2007.

'Music and Lyrics' Synopsis: A washed upwardly vocaliser is given a couple days to compose a chart-topping striking for an aspiring teen sensation. Though he's never written a decent lyric in his life, he sparks with an offbeat younger woman with a flair for words.

'Music and Lyrics' has rhythm & soul. The characters piece of work, while the music beautifully compliments narrative. The film has a very experience-skilful vibe, which it consistently carries throughout. At that place are moments of sense of humor & subtle romance here, likewise.

Marc Lawrence'southward Screenplay is full of charm & light-moments. Its very well-written! Lawrence's Direction, on the other-hand, is nicely done. Cinematography is acme-notch. Editing is just right.

Functioning-Wise: Hugh Grant & Drew Barrymore are in terrific form. Both of the talented actors add charm, wit & realism to their respective parts & share a lovely on-screen chemistry. Brad Garrett is first-charge per unit.

On the whole, 'Music and Lyrics' works hugely. Strongly Recommended!

beginning rate romantic one-act

I approached this movie with some trepidation. The reviews had been rather mixed and romantic comedies often go wrong. And I don't really trust the opinion of the friend who recommended it.

Just it's really excellent. It'southward funny and charming. The songs are some of the all-time written-for-some-romantic-comedy songs I've ever heard. The opening mock video is bully and Grant and Barrymore are both utterly charming. There's as well a very nice operation by Haley Bennett every bit a spacey popular star (I actually came across a review by someone who said Bennett stole the movie from Barrymore, which is adequately insane since it's a very modest part. My guess is the reviewer either only doesn't like Barrymore or barbarous in love with Haley because she'southward utterly gorgeous).

Information technology's not a perfect movie. Similar a lot of romantic comedies, it begins to lose some steam when it tries to actually have a story and teach lessons and all that. I was worried information technology would turn out like Hitch, which is really funny for the outset plot less one-half so becomes really lame. But Music & Lyrics wisely keeps the plot to a minimum, staying equally much as possible to a unproblematic story nigh two people with a connection being charming and maxim funny things.

Romantic one-act made right!

Music and Lyrics is nothing circuitous, information technology is just a simple, well-made low-cal romantic comedy. Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant are very charming, and very likable. The scenes where they are making the vocal together are the most constructive, because it hits right into the eye. The supporting players are besides very well cast and rounded, and help make the flick likable. It is aught incredibly special, but the music is quite practiced, and by the end, you cannot aid merely feel touched by this film. Finally, a very good romantic one-act that mainstream audiences can enjoy with their lovers. For fans of this picture, you might also take a look at Once, the 'independent' version of this film.
